Philip Chen- President of Huawei's digital Power Business

Technology is the catalyst for our future growth and CO2 neutrality.

The urgent demand for CO2 neutrality and rapid digital transformation.

Amid the global pandemic, China announced its goal to reach peak emissions before 2030 and CO2 neutrality by 2060. Ambitious as it is, it is one of the most important milestones in the fight against global warming and climate change in the last 40 years. Many countries around the world, including major economies, have already committed to achieving net-zero emissions within a certain timeframe, such as the European Union, Japan, Korea, Canada, New Zealand and others. Of course, technology plays an important role on our path to carbon neutrality.

On one side of the coin, with Industry 4.0, further urbanization and digitization, the increasing popularity of 5G networks, new services such as online healthcare, online education, online office, smart home, VR, AR and autonomous driving, experience and service-driven connectivity and computing are ubiquitous, requiring wider network connections, higher bandwidth, tighter content and computing for users, and ultimately more energy. COVID-19 also tested many countries and companies on their level of digitization, intelligence and connectivity. How can we ensure that we can develop sustainably and responsibly? We could see that after the pandemic, it will be the perfect opportunity for the public and private sectors to look at green technologies and strategies for our future growth.
Over the next two or three decades, our society will evolve into a smart era. ICT infrastructure will become the cornerstone of the smart world. However, in transforming the ICT network, the challenges of Big Data, big data traffic and big energy consumption must be met. Energy as a foundation is a critical element in building our digital economy. To ensure a smooth transition, the digitalization of the energy industry has begun. Huawei is leveraging the capabilities of evolving from traditional power solutions to the energy grid, delivering intelligent digital power solutions covering iSite Power, Data Center Power, Smart PV, mPower, and Modular Power.

Huawei plays a role

  • First, Huawei is addressing the problem of high energy consumption, long construction time, and high maintenance costs associated with building the foundation for digital infrastructure, so that we can accelerate the process of digital transformation.

  • Second, global ICT energy consumption continues to rise, accounting for 2% of total global electricity consumption. This is expected to reach 5% by 2030. Green energy generation and energy conservation are top priorities. Huawei Smart PV solution plays an important role in energy generation. To date, the total solar energy generated by the Huawei Smart PV Solution has reached 296.5 billion kWh.

After all, more than 800 million people - 11% of the world's population - still live without reliable electricity. Huawei continues to invest in the digitalization of energy, enabling greener power generation and energy conservation with digital technologies.

We have worked with many customers around the world and feel very fortunate to be part of their digital transformation journeys. Based on these experiences, we believe that solutions that are simple, smart, environmentally friendly and reliable are the future. For simplicity, we work with our customers in Japan and South Korea to provide simple on-site power systems to meet local ICT needs. With our Blade Power, our customers can install quickly and easily within one hour with no additional space required.

Saving energy plays a major role in all our solutions to keep them as environmentally friendly as possible. In Henan Province, China, we have installed 1700 data center cabinet units, reducing energy consumption by 5% to 8% and saving 3.85 million kWh of electricity annually. Data center energy is widely used and recognized in many industries, especially in ISP, finance, transportation and energy, such as Colt DCS, CITIC Bank, Shenzhen Airport data center, Dawiyat (a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Electricity Company). . This year, we partnered with Intelligent Power Solutions Ltd. to provide Bosodchem, a Hungarian company, with a world-class, state-of-the-art green intelligent modular data center.

For power generation, our Smart PV solution recently contributed to the successful grid connection of the world's largest PV plant in Qinghai, China. Of the total 2.2-GW plant, Huawei, as the supplier with the largest project share, is supplying 1.6-GW inverters for this project. Our Smart PV solution can also be connected to weaker grids and provides fault ride-through capabilities that ensure stable operation in various grid environments. In terms of reliability, we have used AI for predictive maintenance. It is already used in the TIER IV disaster recovery data center for Abu Dhabi Municipality and many other solutions.

We strive to provide electricity to regions where they may not yet have access to it, and prevent them from taking advantage of the digital world. Huawei uses solutions such as advanced hybrid power and smart microgrid to reduce power generation costs and provide power in poor areas. The digital power solution covers a wide range of industries. Currently, Huawei's digital power business has helped generate 296.5 billion kWh of electricity and save 9.1 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to planting 250 million trees.

Recently, Huawei was named the winner in three categories at the DCS Awards: "Data Center Equipment Vendor of the Year", "New Design / Build Data Center Project of the Year", and "Data Center Energy Innovation of the Year" the unanimous recognition from customers, partners, and the industry. This is also due to Huawei's continuous investment and technological achievements in data center equipment.

Huawei Digital Power is leading energy digitization for a smart and sustainable world . With this mission, Huawei Digital Power aims to make every PV system digital, drive on-site energy digitization for ubiquitous and green connectivity, advance the green journey through digitization, and enable a green data center with AI. We strongly believe that technology can help us bring about positive change and enable a digital and sustainable future.
